Year 6 - Division 2 Season Preview

Aston Villa

Another big club that is in the ascendancy, Aston Villa are looking to make their mark.

Another promotion may be beyond them for this season, although they may be looking to consolidate their league position this year – before making a push for Division 1 status next season.

Predicted Finish: 4th   /8

Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic do not have the money like other clubs do but still manage to put out good performances.

They were able to retain their Division 2 place, after looking like relegation could have been on the cards at one point. Division 2 is very competitive this year, so they will need to do their best to avoid the bottom two places.

Predicted Finish: 6th   /8

Leeds United

Leeds United have a huge following and that is helping this side grow.

They surprised a few by gaining promotion in their first full season, despite not being title challengers all season. Division 2 opposition will be a harder task for them this year, so they will be looking for a mid-table finish.

Predicted Finish: 5th   /8

Luton Town

It was a difficult season for Luton last year, as they slipped out of Division 1 for the first time in their history.

They enjoyed a good run in the League Cup, but this does not compare to league standings. They will not be wanting to look at anything else but promotion back to Division 1 this season.

Predicted Finish: 2nd   /8

Manchester City

Manchester City are looking for two straight promotions in a row.

The wealthy team from Manchester will not settle for anything less than being in the top division. They may also hope for a good Cup run to give the top teams a bit of a challenge.

Predicted Finish: 1st   /8

QPR

Division 2 could be a step too far for QPR this year. With so many London clubs, it is difficult for some of the smaller ones to compete.

QPR have done well so far, but could this year be the one where they run out of steam and struggle?

Predicted Finish: 7th   /8

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday missed out on promotion last season by the narrowest of margins.

They are a team that appears to be growing in skill and strength and are looking to go places. They have never played in the top Division yet, and could be in with a chance this year – although they once again face some tough opposition  for the top places.

Predicted Finish: 3rd   /8

Wimbledon

Wimbledon have always been a fantastic Cup team but their league form has been on a decline for a few seasons now.

Many would like to see the ‘crazy gang’ of old return, but sadly there are many other teams who are becoming stronger. Wimbledon may find this a difficult season and will need to pick up points where they can.

Predicted Finish: 8th   /8
